DC Heroes! I bought the last edition they made back in the early/mid 90’s – the ediion that came out during the Reign of the Supermen. I remember I used to find the earlier edition suppliments in Dollar stores. I think I bought 20 or more before I finally found the main book in my local mall bookstore. But to my dismay the power level of the editions was different! They must have adjusted the scale of the AP’s between editions and without the earlier edition books to understand the AP scales those characters were built with, There was little I could do to mesh them.

I regret that I never got to try and run this game. I made a bunch of characters and what I really wanted to do was play in it, not run it. Now decades later I have no idea where any of those books are. One thing I really liked about the game was its flexibility – I really felt like there were enough options to make any hero, at any power level. The biggest flaw the game had in my opinion was that it had to translate everything into its game terms. As an example, one did not just have a “camera.” One had an easy to lose Device with the Recall power at 19 AP’s, and the power Flaw limiting Recall to visual only.

When I got into Mutants and Masterminds 2nd editon some years ago I got a very strong Deja-vu vibe, as making characters in that game and powers system reminded me very strongly of the powers system in Mayfair’s DC Heroes.

Thanks for bringing me back this nostalgia!

Glad you enjoyed the episode Glistam! While DC Heroes can be daunting to the newcomer, I do agree with you that for players who understand it’s system, it is an extremely powerful and versatile system.
